Later Flaherty
After
this failure, Flaherty leaves Hollywood for the UK.
There he makes Man of Aran (1936),
reasonably successful...but fails at fiction (Elephant Boy 1937)
again.
Back in the US (and bankrupt) the government commissions
The Land (1942) but pulls it on release.
Louisiana Story (1948) is his final film is
sponsored by Standard Oil. Often considered his best film.
Themes of modernity, tradition, authenticity, and loss of innocence
predominate.
