Tim Asch and the Yanomamo
Asch might have been the most important filmmaker in the Marshall, Gardner, DER group.
He started as an art photographer and had studied with Ansel Adams and Edward Weston (two of the greats). He was recommended to Marshall et al by Margaret Mead.
