Alpha Kappa Delta (AKD) is the international sociology honor society, founded 1920. Its purpose is, "To acknowledge and promote excellence in scholarship in the study of sociology, the research of social problems, and such other social and intellectual activities as will lead to improvement in the human condition." The chapter at Texas State (Xi of Texas) was founded in 1972.  To learn more about AKD, visit the national website.

Why join AKD?

  • Joining AKD gives you the opportunity to list the organization on your resume, which emphasizes your academic excellence to prospective employers and graduate programs.
  • We have a fancy banquet every spring - bring your friends and family!
  • You get AKD honor cords to wear with your cap and gown at graduation.
  • You get a subscription to the journal Sociological Inquiry (first year free).
