Examine each of the five sentences below.   Using the elementary principles of composition (Ch. 2 Strunk and White), specify principles that could be used to improve the sentence.  Using the insights from the principles, rewrite three sentences.

 

1. The water resources community and their public administrators should understand the lessons associated with drought planning and policies and act on these lessons learned from the past in order to better prepare for future droughts.

 

 

 

2. Work requirements of TANF recipients are one of the most important aspects of all because it shows what the recipients were required to do in the past and what changes welfare reform will bring today. This will also examine any employment; parent training classes and time limit requirements enacted by TANF and other activities.

 

 

 

3. However, this recent trend in enrollment growth is not limited to current enrollment data. Researchers expect enrollment figures for public community colleges to consistently continue to increase over time.

 

 

 

4. Even after fifty years, the issues of equity and adequacy that faced Texas policy makers are similar to those that face policy makers today.

 

 

 

5. As with all issues surrounding the adaptation of the world to natural disasters, it is fair to note that what constitutes success for one water supplier or region may not be successful for another due to the uniqueness of every water system and region.
