Hortus Colere - Horticulture Club

Hortus Colere is the Texas State Horticulture Club. Our goal is to provide a welcoming environment for students to learn about plants and also have fun. We are committed to giving our time to the community through Bobcat Build and other service oriented projects.

Recent & Upcoming Events

Fall '07 Meetings are going to be held every Thursday, 12:30 - 1:30 in the headhouse as usual in the Ag building (3rd floor). For more up to date information join our TRACS (click me) site. If that doesn't work log in to TRACS and search for "Horticulture Club". It is joinable by anyone.

September 6th, 2007 - Second Meeting for Fall '07. Officer elections, nominations, projects and ideas will be discussed and propagation ideas from the first meeting will likely take place. If you missed the first meeting, you can still come and we'll catch you up to our planned agenda for this semester.

April 20th, 2007 - Horticulture Club PLANT SALE! Come out to the Quad for great deals on plants. We will be selling plants in the Agricultural building on the same day also.

Joining Hortus Colere

  • Hortus Colere is open to anyone who likes or wants to know more about plants. Everyone is welcome! You don't have to be a Horticulture major, or even know about plants. You just have to want to help out and pay your dues.
  • For more information about the Horticultural Club contact Dr. Tina Cade for current semester's meeting times, dues, and any other questions.

Club Activities:

  • Community outreach:
    • AlzCare - Planted flower beds at a home for Alzheimer's patients

    • San Marcos Nature Center - we annually spend a weekend helping pull weeds and install new plantings at the garden

    • Living Library - students spend extra time weeding and installing plants

  • Fun Stuff:
    • Plant Sales - Each semester, Hortus Colere cleans out the tree house and sells plants that we have grown. Some of the plants are left over class projects, but most are grown by members of the club for fund raising purposes.

    • Semester Campouts - After the plant sales, we take everyone camping on our dime to give us a chance to relax and bond with each other.
