Final Projects Schedule

All of this semester's newscasts can be found on the computers in Room 324. They're saved in the high quality .mov format.

Decide before your allotted time what you need from the newscasts & from other sources that you may have on DVDs. Copying of your DVDs from external sources will take place in Room 328.

You can find the stories you worked on -- if you don't have the copies that I returned to you -- by looking at the rundowns for each newscast. The rundowns are stored in this folder: http://www.txstate.edu/~me04/tvnews/rundowns or you can log onto News23 in the news lab and find them. Look under ARCHIVES, Spring 2009. Find the slug name for the story you want. Take note of the dates. This will guide you to the newscasts you'll need to put in the timeline for editing and creating clips.

You will be given 30 minutes (photogs) to 1 hour (reporters) to capture your clips. Work efficiently. We have a lot of people who will need to use the computers. Please don't be the one to cause a bottleneck. You will have to stop what you're doing at the end of your designated time to give the next person an opportunity to do his or her work. BE ON TIME and BE EFFICIENT.

Once you know which newscast contains the clip you want to include in your senior portfolio, open FinalCut and drag the newscast to the timeline. Find the clip you want and use the razor tool to CUT the story 4 seconds before and 4 seconds after. Delete all of the rest...leaving only your desired clip, plus eight extra seconds. Make a movie: File, Export, QuickTime Movie. Save the movies to the Desktop. Use the defaults. Do NOT convert it to .AVI. Name your new movie using your last name, followed by 01, 02, 03, 04 and so on. Create a folder using your last name and move all of of your clips to the folder.
