Here's the process:
1) Highlight the script for a single story (exclude the Item Number and
Slug reference below) and Copy.
2) Open Microsoft Word to a blank document.
3) Copy the script into the blank document.
4) Convert stories written in UPPER case to SENTENCE (upper/lower) case.
Capitalize any formal names.
5) Save the unformatted script using the slug assigned below. Save it in
Text Only on the desktop.
6) The script in the Text Only format should never exceed nine lines. (nine
lines, period) If the script falls short of seven lines, do an online
search to find more information about the story and add it.
7) You may rewrite the lead, so proofread it for readability. Strive for
a present tense lead. If you can't pronounce a word, ask about it or write
around it.
8) Mark/Highlight the revised copy.
9) Click on the icon for the Bobcat Update Script template.
10 ) Paste the revised copy into the right column.
11) Mark/Highlight the script and change the Font Format to 18 pt Times
New Roman.
12) If the script -- with the increased font size -- exceeds one page
formatted, then edit it. One page = 30 seconds.
13) Type a slug at the top of the script (same as assigned below).
14) Put your name by REPORTER: _____ .
15) Type a ROLL Cue. Example: ROLL VO in the left column directly
under Video Cues for VOs...or type *name of slug*.BMP for
Readers.
16) Print 4 copies and place them on the table.
17) Save the formatted script onto the desktop using the same slug but
with the suffix .DOC (not .DOT)
18) Move the script files you created from the desktop to the Network Server.
Open the News 23 icon and drag the .txt document to TXT FOR PROMPTER and
the .doc document to .DOC FOR PRINT.
