Preparing CNN Video:

1) At 12:30pm in Room 324, print off NewsPrep and CNN NewsFeed rundown sheets from the Bobcat Update homepage.

2) On the CNN Rundown sheets, look for and check off the stories listed on the NewsPrep page.

3) Go to Room 302.

4) Remove the CNN AM FEED tape from the top recorder. Insert the CNN PM FEED tape.

5) Rewind the CNN AM FEED tape in the bottom player. After it's rewound, eject and insert the tape in the middle player.

6) Search for the selected stories. Make sure the TV on Computer Desk is on 'Video 2' and Twin Pact 100 is in 'Analog'

7) Once you have found the first selected story, hit 'Pause' on the video player

8) Log into computer username: tvnews, password: mc3312

9) Open Final Cut Express

10) On computer click "File," "Capture," then click "Now"

11) Hit play on the video player and let the story play through

12) Hit Esc when the story is complete -Hint: You can capture all stories first and then edit them or you can edit each one after you capture it.

13) Edit the story: If the video clip is a package, delete the audio track and remove all sound bites and standups.

14) Your goal is to produce a 40-second video clip with no audio and no talking heads.

15) Once a story is edited, Click "File," "Export," "Using QuickTime Conversion"

16) Follow the steps on how to create an .AVI video clip. They are posted in the room

17) Save Video to the Desktop first

18.) Watch the video once it is saved to the Desktop.

19.) If the video works, save it to News23 --> Alkek --> Newscast --> Wednesday or Thursday

If a Still Image is requested (to be used usually as an over-the-shoulder box), place the raw video in the Final Cut timeline and place the cursor over the segment to be captured. Click "File," "Export," "Using QuickTime Conversion." Change the format from QuickTime .mov to Still Image. Click on Options to change the format from PNG to BMP. Save the image on the desktop and then move the file to the server by dragging it to the News23 icon.
