Here are links to Kinesiology, Fitness, and Sport Science web sites. Kinesiology comes
from two Greek verbs that mean 'to move' and 'to study,' so since the 1970's kinesiology
has become known in higher education as the academic study of human movement. This can be
confusing because earlier in the last century kinesiology was the name of the required
course on functional anatomy and mechanics. This course is now called 'biomechanics' but
many physical therapy programs still use the older terminology. Warning: Fringe, pseudo-
medical practitioners have borrowed the term so 'applied kinesiology,' 'clinical kinesiology,'
or 'holistic kinesiology' are sometimes used for the unscientific practice of the diagnosis
of disease from manual muscle strength tests.
