Gary White is Director of the Society of Physics Students and the associated physics honor society, Sigma Pi Sigma, as well as Assistant Director of the Education Division of the American Institute of Physics (AIP). He received his Ph.D. in nuclear theory at Texas A & M University in 1986, and has subsequently developed interests in ion beams and science pedagogy. He was appointed to AIP's Education Advisory Committee in 1998, and recently served as science faculty advisor to the Louisiana Blue Ribbon Commission on Teacher Quality, but his interest in K-12 teacher preparation extends over the entirety of his 15 or so years in the classroom.
