John Layman

John Layman is Professor Emeritus at the University of Maryland. He held a joint appointment between Physics and Secondary Education and was Director of the Science Teaching Center for many years. He is now Co-PI on the APS PhysTEC NSF/FIPSE grant. His expertise is in physics education with special interest in Inquiry and the Standards approach to learning. He has served as President, Secretary, and other roles in AAPT and counts attendance at this conference and the Texas Section of AAPT as highlights of this year. PhysTEC emerged in support of the AAPT/APS/AIP pronouncement that all physics departments should assume responsibility for K-12 teacher preparation and is interested in this occurring in Texas as well as the other half of the country.
