The Effect of Plastic Deformation on the Magnetic Properties of Thin Iron and Permalloy Films |

Understanding the influence of stress on the magnetic properties of thin films is vital if one wishes to apply them in such devices as hard-disk heads, sensors or actuators. Our group has deposited thin iron and permalloy films on polished and non-polished super-elastic nitinol sheet metal by ion beam sputtering, then subjected them to different strains and analyzed them using VSM, X-ray and various optical techniques. |

The research that I have been personally responsible for has involved the straining and observation of the substrate and film properties, so this website focuses on these portions of the group’s research.
