Welcome The faculty and staff of the History Department at Texas State are excited to continue our educational partnership with public schools in Hays and San Marcos with our third summer institute devoted to the study of 20 th century topics in United States history. How It Works There will be 4 session opportunities for participants throughout each day with some time slots having alternative topic selections. Within each 70 minute session content and pedagogy specialists will be working with participants to deepen their understanding of key historical events that will enrich the teaching of both the state standards and district curriculum. Participant binders this year will include curriculum resources for developing a variety of classroom activities, including warm ups that provide practice for TEKS Social Studies Skills. Although there will not be daily sessions devoted to Texas topics, the Texas theme will be integrated into all sessions whenever possible. Sessions with strong Texas connections will be noted on the schedule by the Pedagogy Opportunities Our hope this year is to merge pedagogy discussions into content sessions as much as possible. Pedagogy specialists will be working with content specialists to develop and implement classroom activities that model innovative teaching strategies within specific sessions. In addition, each district will offer afternoon sessions that will provide opportunities for participants to connect new content knowledge to existing curriculum practices. Immersion Experience This year's immersion experience will involve a tour of the facilities available to teachers in the Austin area.
