01.       POLICY STATEMENT

 

01.01  This UPPS has three purposes:

 

a.   To detail Texas State's policy of equal opportunity and nondiscrimination in the provision of employment, education, and other services to the public.

 

b.   To establish the responsibilities of administrative officers and department heads in implementing the Affirmative Action/Recruitment Plan at Texas State (see Attachment I).

 

c.   To provide a glossary of terms and definitions that are used to support the Affirmative Action/Recruitment Plan, equal employment opportunity (EEO), nondiscrimination, diversity, equity, and access at Texas State (See Attachment II).

 

02.       COMMITMENT

 

02.01  Texas State reaffirms its good faith efforts and commitment to:

 

a.   Provide employment and educational opportunities that will result in a diverse employment force and student body;

 

b.   Identify and eliminate employment practices and institutional policies that illegally discriminate against persons on the basis of race, color, age, national origin, religion, disability, or sex; and

 

c.   Identify and eliminate employment practices that discriminate against persons on the basis of sexual orientation.

 

02.02  Texas State has developed an Affirmative Action/Recruitment Plan. The Affirmative Action/Recruitment Plan will be reviewed by the Director of Human Resources, the Chair of the Faculty Senate, and the Chair of the Staff Council and updated by the Chief Diversity Officer (CDO) and Director of Equity and Access every two years. The President’s Cabinet will review, and the President will approve, all modifications to the plan.

02.03  Each administrative officer and department head shares in the responsibility to achieve affirmative action and diversity goals for the University. Attachment I outlines the specific responsibilities of each.

 

02.04  Terms and definitions contained in Attachment II are taken from the following: Titles VI and VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (as amended), Executive Order 11246 and 11375, the implementing Revised Order No. 4, The Equal Pay Act of 1963, the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Age Discrimination Act of 1967, Title IX, Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and other applicable federal and state regulations. Attachment II provides a glossary of terms pertinent to the Affirmative Action/Recruitment Plan at Texas State.
