For admission as a Master's degree student, as a Certification with Master of Education Degree (CMED) student, or as a non-degree-seeking graduate student:
· Attend an information session in the College of Education Center for Student and Professional Services (512-245-3050), formerly known as the Advising Center.
· Apply for admission through the Texas State Graduate College. Students must have a 2.75 or higher GPA on their last 60 undergraduate hours. The written statement of purpose should be sent directly to the Graduate Elementary Education Program Facilitator. The GRE is not required at this time. Further admissions information is available at the Graduate College website. See the Degrees Offered page for degree codes associated with the different degree specializations within Graduate Elementary Education. It is very important that students apply for the correct degree code. A fee is charged for changing degree plans. On the "proposed major" line of the Graduate College application, write "Elementary Education" and then write your particular degree code.
· On the Graduate College
application, indicate the following information if you are a Certification with a Master of Education Degree (CMED) student:
- Proposed major: Elementary Education
- Specialization: CMED (indicate the program you would like to enter) AND the certification level you will be seeking (EC-4 Generalist, etc)
- Minor: Cognate (all students in CMED programs have a cognate instead of a minor)
- Degree being sought: M.Ed.
· Upon receipt of your acceptance letter into Graduate School
, you should contact Mrs. McCall (cm06@txstate.edu), Graduate Elementary Education Advisor, as instructed in your letter. At that point, she will provide additional information regarding your Master's degree program. Certification, field experience, and student teaching questions are handled by the Center for Student and Professional Services. General questions or concerns related to Graduate Studies in Elementary Education, such as questions related to the Master's comprehensive examination (taken at the end of your coursework), may be directed to Dr. Susan Field Waite (sw22@txstate.edu).
