James E. McWilliams specializes in colonial and early American
history. His research interests center on the local economy, food
preparation, pest control, and the environment. His first book, titled A Revolution in Eating: How the Quest for Food Shaped America
was published in the summer of 2005. His book on local trade in seventeenth-century
Massachusetts is forthcoming from UVA Press. McWilliams is a contributing
writer at The Texas Observer,
writes a column called “Politics and Prose” for the Austin-American Statesman, and has
written for the Washington Post, Los
Angeles Times, USA Today, and The
Christian Science Monitor.
